A sirsee is an unexpected gift, in Southern parlance. While the origin of the word is uncertain, the value of a good sirsee is clear. s i r s e e  aims to offer unforeseen delights, while fostering a sense of unbound generosity.

Journal No. 1: Ripe for the Picking

s i r s e e   seeks contributions for its inaugural journal. Submissions are open in the following categories: original photography, artwork, ephemera.

Our theme is "Ripe for the Picking", and we encourage a range of interpretations.

The agricultural community approaches each year’s harvest with uncertainty and hope, never knowing what dedicated efforts will yield. The fruit of this labor is a sirsee indeed. Beyond the fields, in the wider world, lies the promise of ripeness in other forms.

What makes for true ripeness? And how do we seize that moment of sweet perfection before it passes? In this journal, we seek to gather answers from a range of perspectives.

  • We seek one-time rights to publication, and do accept previously published material, so long as the author or artist holds appropriate rights.
